Lucky Iris - Turns out We Should Have Stayed at Home

Updated: Jul 23, 2020

Leeds-based duo Lucky Iris have released their first-ever EP ‘Turns out We Should Have Stayed at Home’ in April. The four-song EP is based around the idea of a night out that goes wrong, something listeners will be too familiar with.

The EP is fresh, relaxing, and energizing exploring a mixture of tempos and melodies. The band's influences include Shura, Alt-J and The xx - adapting a similar indie-pop style in the more upbeat songs including “Get Ready with Me” and “Glitter Vision”.

The lead single “Get Ready with Me” is a prime example of the band's influences. The bouncy, repetitive beat is like Laura Mvula’s “Green Garden”, making the single catchy and setting the album off on a good foot.

On the flip side, we see the duo approach additional genres, heard in “Take 5 (Why Can’t You See Me?)” and “I Fell Backwards”. With strong, raw vocals and soft yet powerful piano chords. These singles create a more sophisticated and soulful tone to the album.

The combination of all four tracks has great potential and demonstrates a well-produced EP, maintaining a consistent style heard throughout.

After gaining attention from BBC Music Introducing in West Yorkshire for Track of the Week and being played across a range of radios it's no wonder, we are keeping an eye on Lucky Iris.
