Meet...Sophie Doyle Ryder

Sophie Doyle Ryder has emerged onto the scene as an exciting prospect with her latest single 'Too Much' that exaggerates unapologetic pop.

Within the space of 11 months, Sophie has grown into her own style of music that is inspired by the likes of Alicia Keys and Rihanna.

With being dubbed as one to watch, we were lucky to get to know a bit more about her and what the future holds for the artist.

Firstly, what has the reaction been like for your latest single 'Too Much' and what is the story behind the track?

The reaction to Too Much has been insane; it already has a million radio impacts. The single is about being in a relationship with somebody and feeling like it’s completely one-sided. You’re giving so much and getting so little back.

Throwing back to your first ever single created, what is the main thing you have learnt throughout your music journey?

I feel like I've grown into my own mind and my own style over the past year. The main thing I’ve learnt is that people aren’t always going to see things how you do, but you just have to keep your own perspective and follow your heart.

Where did it all start for you as an artist and what inspires you to create music?

It all started when I was about 9 singing karaoke in Spain with my family. Every single night I did it, and there was always an Adele song! I’m inspired by a lot of things. Sometimes I'll just be out and about and see or hear something that would give me ideas.

With a series of singles out the past year, what has been your favourite so far and why?

Too Much! This song has always been my favourite, it just means so much to me and the reaction has just been incredible.

For someone who hasn't heard of you, how would you describe your sound and process of creating music?

I’d describe my sound as unique, relatable and unapologetic. My process of creating music is usually picking the topic, melody, and then lyrics!

In March you're planning to do your first ever headline gig at Whelan's Upstairs - how excited are you for this to happen?

I feel like I've been waiting for this forever. I've been so excited ever since I knew it was happening! The new date is almost a year after the original. Rehearsals will be the best part.

Talking about gigging, how has lockdown affected you as a rising star?

It’s been tough, summer was supposed to be amazing. It has helped me with my writing though and pushed me to work harder.

Who are some of your favourite rising stars in Dublin?

Kehli, Georgia G, Evans Junior and Lucy Blue

As you become a star to watch, what can we expect for you down the line and is there new music on the way?

I’ll definitely be coming out with new music soon, and I hope to do a few collabs!

Finally, what is the top spot of your bucket list?

Definitely playing Malahide Castle one day.
