Sister Lucy - 'Dream'

With fuzzy guitar distortion driving the track, Lucy's ethereal vocals deliver poignant lyrics about the games of affection. Beginning with muses of "I only wanted to be wanted / to be good enough”, Lucy finishes with a sudden tempo change, paired with the lyrics “what the hell am I doing here / what’s a girl got to do”. Calling on other up-and-coming artists such as Soccer Mommy and Big Thief, ‘Dream’ fits right into the wave of new nostalgia, reminiscent of 90s grunge.

Being the first single from Lucy’s upcoming debut EP, the rising artist stated: “[It] is for women in their twenties. It's about the fear of growing up and getting old while also becoming wiser and weary of the world.” The accompanying live performance video and artwork designs are headed by Sinclair, herself, and Fred Deakin (of electronic duo Lemon Jelly).

Sister Lucy is definitely one to watch; ‘Dream’ is refreshingly vulnerable and uncomfortably honest; audiences won’t be able to help but sing along.
