The Amazons – Not for the Faint Hearted

With their third date to the end of the tour, The Amazons brought it to Bournemouth O2 Academy last night with strobe lighting, rock, and laughter.

From playing at 60 Million Postcards three years ago to now a sold out O2 Academy, The Amazons hit Bournemouth like a storm with support from the amazing upcoming band The Mysterines and ongoing rock band Demob Happy.

The Mysterines opened the night, with strong guitar riffs, drumbeats, and stunning vocals from lead singer Lia Metcalfe. With few people knowing them, it came to a surprise that they were an excellent imminent band to open the gig. They’re definitely a band to watch an eye on in the future.

As the night swung into flow, Demob Happy – second support act of the night – delivered rock vibes to the evening and warmed up the crowd for what was to come. It was a notable set and I wouldn’t be surprised that we will be seeing them headlining their own shows.

As the venue started to get full, The Amazons took to stage with a simple but effective backdrop from the outline of the cave on their latest album 'Future Dust'. After their release of their new album and second one of their careers; it came clear that people were bond of their new heavy rock style. Their set exploded with energy throughout the night and didn’t bat an eye lid, which came across to the audience as the night came together as one huge mosh pit and crowd surfing. The lead singer Matt Thomson knew how to put on a show and kept fans going all night.

A lot of tracks from their latest album featured throughout the night, but no one complained; with 'Mother' and 'Fuzzy Tree' opening the night. This was followed by the likes of 'Georgia', 'All Over Town' and '25'. We were also lucky to hear songs from their first album such as 'Stay with Me' and 'In My Mind'. It was one hell of a night and it didn’t stop there.

It wasn’t just a show, it was a performance from the rock band and adding to the finale of the night – we saw them perform 'Junk Food Forever' and arguably their biggest hit 'Black Magic' which was a special ending to the action packed concert.
