Meet...Beth George

22-year-old electro-acoustic pop singer, from Kent, has broken into the music scene with her upbeat and catchy music. Luckily I was able to ask a couple of questions about her journey.

How did you get yourself into the music scene and how hard has it been for you?

From as long as I can remember I’ve been constantly surrounded by music so I feel like I’ve just naturally gravitated into the music scene but it has also taken a lot of hard work in the sense that I’ve had to push myself out of my comfort zone to make connections. Also being unsigned I’m not only writing and producing music I’m also managing my gigs, social media and promotion so it’s full-on but worth it!

What was your inspiration whilst growing up and who do you inspire to be?

I had a few influences but would say Alicia Keys was my main inspiration being a female singer and pianist, I always loved her energy as a performer. My parents were always big fans of dance music when I was growing up so as I got older, I gravitated towards electronic as well. Now I just aspire to produce music that I’m proud of and that people can relate to.

What inspired you to create ‘Leaning on’ and what has the reaction been like since the release?

Leaning on was written when I was feeling extremely passionate about my career whilst dealing with a rough situation. At this point in my life, I felt quite alone and isolated but knew that I could only get where I wanted to be on my own. It’s all about emotional independence and perseverance to follow your dreams. The reaction to the song and video was great, being featured on BBC Introducing in Kent as well as being empowering in my live gigs. It’s definitely one of the best songs I’ve written to date and will always be special to me.

You only released ‘Pockets’ a couple of months ago, what made you write this song, and did you face any challenges?

This song actually stemmed from a friendship that broke down during my teenage years which really affected my confidence, however, while I was writing and producing it, the meaning of the song evolved to be relatable with any difficult situation which might knock you down. It’s just about moving on from it and not dwelling on the negatives.

You have had a busy year, but what can people expect in the coming future?

So, I’m releasing the EP ‘Whole Heart’ on Friday which I actually produced a few years ago now but have been holding onto it for so long!! And then in the new year I’ve got brand new material to release which is a big progression from the ‘Whole Heart’ EP, both production-wise and I plan to be releasing a song a month and currently in the process of organising music videos, live sessions and hopefully a tour!
