Why You Should be Listening to Lynks

Emerging through the ranks of English music, Lynks has established himself as a one to watch through his natural industrial pop production and gender-fuck drag.

From his emotionally effective EP 'Smash Hits, Vol. 1' to his weird and wonderful DIY approach, Lynks aka Lynks Afrikka, doesn't hold back, as he looks like a queer icon in the making. The Bristol-based artist hasn't always been at the heart of soaring dance anthems as he started out with indie-pop music but, now the charismatic yet vulnerable rising star is heading into a new chapter with pop-punk experimental sounds.

'Pedestrian at Best' is the first track from his forthcoming EP. With the blessing of Courtney Barnett herself, Lynks transforms an iconic rock song into a resounding dance floor anthem. "Courtney’s original version of ‘Pedestrian at Best’ was one of the first tracks that inspired me to start writing music," Lynks said. "There was something in the specificity and the humour of the lyrics that made me realise, ‘holy shit, I could write songs about ANYTHING’. And so, at the start of lockdown when I got my first synth and, I was learning how to use it, I thought why not try and do my own spin on it as a kinda technical exercise. But then it ended up sounding amazing. I performed it on a live stream, a bunch of people asked me if I would release it and now here, we are! I’m so happy to be paying homage to the ICON that is Courtney Barnett and to be turning her existential punk anthem into an unapologetic gay-club-ready banger." Alongside his funky self-directed video, Lynks is looking forward to sharing his next release.

With hit singles 'How to Be Successful' and 'Str8 Acting' already making a mark, Lynks quintessential taste to the music industry is winning the heart of others.
