A BRIEF OVERVIEW

Hear It From Me

Being a gay man and a fan of football, I have always followed the news of the LGBT+ Community within football. From players and coaches coming out to the support the clubs show for Rainbow laces and inclusivity. However, I have never had the chance to delve further into the ongoing subject and the complexities of a football player coming out.

Since Justin Fashanu came out thirty years ago, we have seen a positive shift in people's attitudes. From the growing fanbase of LGBT+ Support Groups to a range of football players coming out in lower leagues, woman football and, in America. Yet, higher league's such as the Premier League have not followed suit as we have not seen an open and public LGBT+ football player come out and a range of complexities are still at the heart of the subject.

Coming Out onto the Field comes into place as I conduct a range of interviews, gather in-depth research and get at the heart of the fan community. By the end of this multimedia project, I would have gained a plethora of learning and gain a better understanding within a three page spread in the style of The Guardian Weekly, an online article, social media campaign and a two-minute audio piece.
